How to Say Thank You for Funeral Flowers

Writing thank you for funeral flowers to those who attended the send off for your loved one may seem like a major challenge right now.  But it doesn’t have to be a huge and insurmountable task. We can help, and we have given you some heartfelt words and examples to use below.

The first and most important thing to remember, is that taking the time to acknowledge those who have expressed kindness and support to you and your family will mean much to your recipients. No one is expecting a lot from you during this time, but receiving a simple sentiment to symbolise your appreciation will be much appreciated.

This is one of those “it’s the thought that counts” moments in life. Keep your thank you notes simple and uncluttered – heartfelt and personal. You really don’t need much more than 1-3 well-chosen sentences to say thank you for funeral flowers.

Thank you notes for funeral flowers are usually sent out within 2-3 weeks after the funeral, but people will understand if it takes up to one or two months. In all reality, it’s never too late to say thank you. Be kind to yourself and do what you can, when you can.

Is this starting to sound more manageable?  You can even use the same message across several thank you cards. No one will be comparing notes and passing judgement.

  1. Start with a list of all those to whom you intend to send your thank you notes. Write down the names of all those who sent flowers to the funeral and check them off as you send out your notes.
  2. Take a deep, long breath. Nobody is expecting a perfect anything from you during this taxing time, least of all a perfect thank you card. Remember – “it’s the thought that counts”. Relax and consider that the act of expressing gratitude to those near and dear to you for their kindness may even distract you from your sadness.
  3. If you haven’t yet bought your cards, we have a range of cards you can personalise with a photo of your loved one and their dates.  Click here for the range.
  4. Just start writing using some of our ideas below.  Don’t expect to get through them all in one sitting.  Take your time and do them a few at a time.

A few examples of how to say thank you for funeral flowers. Combine a few as you like or check out the full sample letter at the end.

Keep it simple.

“Thank you for the beautiful flowers you sent for _________’s funeral.”

For a special friend.

“Thank you for being there for me/us during this time of sorrow, and every other moment in life that has mattered.”

“Thank you for your kindness and generosity; we are so grateful to have you in our lives.”

Thank you for the generous bouquet you sent for Peter’s funeral. The lilies brought such a beautiful, special touch to the celebration.  Lilies were always a favourite of Peter’s so they were really appropriate.
